Expanding Opportunities

Opening the Doors to Student Success
Education is about expanding opportunities for students. Working with state and community partners, Superintendent Woods has pushed for more fine arts and college and career-related opportunities for all Georgia’s students -- many of which were scaled back or eliminated during the Great Recession.

Under Woods’ leadership, the GaDOE has opened doors for students through a strong Career, Technical, Agricultural Education (CTAE) program in every school and the Move On When Ready (MOWR) program where students can earn college credit while still in high school. Woods continues to advocate for students to earn articulated college credit when they earn industry credentials and certificates in their high school CTAE classes. In the recently approved state Every Student Succeeds Act plan, Superintendent Woods fought to protect and preserve career pathways – expanding opportunities for students instead of placing more emphasis on high-stakes testing.

Superintendent Woods has brought the vision of a holistic approach to education to the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) -- one that provides high quality, personalized and relevant options to each and every child.
