Supt. Woods: "CRT has no place in our schools and classrooms"
Woods was the first statewide elected official in Georgia to speak out against CRT
May 11, 2021 | Communities, families, and educators must continue to stay united and focused on ensuring that every child, from every zip code, will receive a great education and the ability to access and gain opportunities to accomplish anything.
We must be vigilant against embracing polarizing practices that only seek to divide us. What we model for our children must set the example on how we come together. The ideology of Critical Race Theory (CRT) has no place in our schools and classrooms. The state's authority is in setting academic standards; the Georgia Department of Education has no current or proposed standards that include CRT concepts. We will not be adopting CRT standards nor applying for or accept any funding that requires the adoption of these concepts by our state, schools, or classrooms. We will not provide trainings that seek to promote these teachings to educators and support staff. The mission of the Georgia Department of Education is to ensure a quality public education for all children in Georgia. Now more than ever, we remain focused on this mission and will not be hindered by any ideologies or agendas that seek to distract us from this work. My commitment to each and every student is what led me to become an educator and what will continue to drive the work of the Georgia Department of Education. The public education challenges and opportunities before us will require all to come together to ensure the brightest possible future for all of Georgia's students. |
RICHARD'S COMMITMENT.
